Isosorbide dinitrate
Indications/Uses
Treatment & prophylaxis of angina pectoris.
Dosage/Direction for Use
5-mg SL tab 1-2 tab 2-3 hrly as required. 10-mg tab Adult 1 tab 4 times daily or 1 tab before sleeping for prophylaxis. Inj 2-10 mg/hr (IV infusion only).
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 30 min before meals.
Contraindications
Glaucoma; anemia; hyperthyroidism; increased intracranial pressure; recent MI.
Special Precautions
May develop tolerance & cross tolerance to other nitrates & nitrites.
Adverse Reactions
Orthostatic hypotension; flushing of face & neck; headache, GI upsets; rapid pulse. Skin rash (rare).
Drug Interactions
Alcohol may intensify orthostatic hypotensive effect. Sympathomimetics may reduce antianginal effect.
